Installations
Type Maadi
exhibited at Festival of Stories (Cubbon park Metro station), 2016
The idea for this collaborative project was formulated over a series of brainstorming sessions regarding the appeal of the analog in the digital world, media archaeology, dead media and zombie media. This led us to using Physical Computation as a tool to input the sensory analog to receive a digital output – thus repurposing a dead media object in a new digital sense.
The Dollhouse
exhibited at Lalit Kala Akademi (Chennai)
Grad show, 2016
‘The Dollhouse’ is a philosophical exploration into human nature, lives and environment. The installation comprises of boxed dioramas, stacked on top of each other, suggestive of the urban jungle. The scenes depicted in the dioramas form a picture of life – of humans engaged in activities towards a particular need (Physiological, Safety, Belonging, Self Esteem and Self Actualization) – following Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Yet, each scene is a mundane activity, placing the dolls in the ordinary and everyday rut of human existence.

Further, the mundanity and banality of the scenes, hint at the meaningless-ness of life itself. The absurdity of existence is only realized when each simple act is questioned for meaning or a 'final goal'. However, instead of surrendering to the absurd, The Dollhouse intends to celebrate it.

Drawing from the influences of contemporary artists such as Bhupen Khakhar, the 8-foot installation is splashed with pop colours and bright lights.
